2026 so far….

2026 has been a rollercoaster so far…

We have had so much to do and we’re only in April.

We reached out and met up with my beautiful niece, who we haven’t seen for a few years. Met her absolutely amazing baby boy, who we love so much already and met her wonderful partner and have watched her baby boy grow so much already. He is absolutely adorable.

I failed my principles of bookkeeping control exam – which I knew was going to happen but just makes me more determined to figure it all out and pass next time. Need to get a shuffle on though as the time is limited once you start taking the exams.

Troy lost his job! Luckily, he managed to find one within 2 days and is now back working full time!

Me and Kirst made the decision to start a Podcast. Bestie, Books & Bakes – we are currently in the process of making this a reality. I obtained a summerhouse to film in (but that’s a story for another blog post!) So, watch this space.

Rubi got me a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 creator kit off them all for Mother’s Day! I am so excited about using it on our upcoming WDW trip and then for other upcoming things too!

Sunday 22nd March our hearts broke as we lost our little Louis bun. He was acting off when Troy left for football, so I decided to bring him upstairs with me to monitor him. He was lethargic, floppy and wouldn’t eat, but was drinking. I thought he may have had GI Statis so offered him medicine for it. He didn’t seem to perk up. We gave him his box to sleep in and offered him fresh hay. At 11:25pm he started seizing and sadly passed in our arms. My poor boy! We were so heartbroken.

We let the kids know and allowed the other bunnies to see him to understand, before taking him to the vets to have him cremated. We noticed Emi wasn’t as enthusiastic to have her treat in the morning, so decided to keep an eye on her. Troy said if she hadn’t perked up within half hour we would take her to the vets for an assessment.   As me and Troy were off work, we decided to get some assembling done on the summerhouse, so went to the back garden. We were outside for roughly 1 minute and realised we had the nails in the house, so Troy went back in to get them. Ran immediately to me with Emi in his arms – we needed to go she was seizing. Before we had even got to the car to take her the vets, Emi had passed. We couldn’t stop crying!

The Vet advised we take Trixie and Bear for their vaccines early for RHD as they believe this was what had killed Louis and Emi. They both went at 12pm! The vet had warned us that if they already had the disease, the vaccination wouldn’t work. We hoped we had managed to get them on time.

Both bunnies seemed to be doing okay. Tuesday came and went and both were eating, drinking, moving around fine. Wednesday 25th March Bear refused a treat before I left for work. Troy was home monitoring her throughout the day. She started seizing at 11:40am. He ran straight to the vets with her, while he knew there was nothing that could be done, he didn’t know what else to do. The vets were so compassionate, they gave him a private room to sit in until she passed. We are truly heartbroken. We had all 3 cremated and chose beautiful little caskets for them. The Vets were so great, with everything, they even sent us condolence cards and little seeds for forget me nots.

To say we have been anxious messes about Trixie since then would be an understatement. She does seem to be okay though. She’s running round. Doing binkies. Interacting with us more. We googled if this was normal and apparently if a bunny knows another bunny is Ill/ injured for a long period, they can become depressed. She witnessed Louis and his broken leg for 6 months and then once that bunny is better/ no longer around, they revert to a happier state. Trixie is now a solo bunny, getting all the treats and attention! We will have to keep a close eye on her though as bunnies can become depressed from loneliness.

Rubi sustained an injury to her left knee, on 10th February, while at work. Poor kid, her knee swelled and was extremely painful to walk on. We took her to A&E, which resulted in manipulation testing to the knee to see if it needed further assessment. X-rays and a promise to send off the results for further assessment. Orthopaedic Dr said just soft ligament damage and physio needed to ger it back to normal. No need for an MRI.

She was assessed by her team’s physio, who believed Rubi had PCL tear and this is why she was in so much pain. Recommended an MRI.  We went to see a specialist at our Dr’s surgery. Manipulation testing done again. Dr believed it was soft tissue/ligament damage and referred her to physio to help strengthen the ligament. Brill! let’s get this back to normal.

While awaiting physio, Rubi managed some soft training with her team and felt like things were going in the right direction. Until she slipped going down the stairs on 4th April, after something popped in her knee. She said she was okay, took pain killers and went to bed. While she was stood in the room on the Sunday, I noticed her leg had severe swelling in her calf and looked a weird colour, I filled out the NHS111 online form and they gave me a call for an immediate out of hours appointment.

The appointment was quick and the Dr there referred her immediately to the Orthopaedic doctor in Worcester Royal. The got there and went straight to the children’s A&E. She got triage and was told she needed to wait to see the Dr for and MRI. After a lengthy wait (4 hours) she had an x-ray, got given a splint and crutches and a referral to the fracture cling – possible ACL injury and Kneecap dislocation!!!! Sent home with a call from the fracture clinic in 72 hours!

She was devastated. Like the trooper she is, she went to college the next day who did a risk assessment and stated she couldn’t be onsite until her brace and crutches were off.

By Wednesday we hadn’t received a call about her appointment, so contacted the unit. Who stated they hadn’t received Rubi’s referral and was lucky we had called! Appointment booked for 9am 10th April!

We get to the appointment; two nurses state they are a Dr down and have 4 new patient appts at 9am and 6 follow ups at 9am and to be expected to wait. Rubi got her iPad loaded ready for a long wait not even a minute later “Rubi” straight into our appointment. We saw a lovely Dr, who asked for the history of the injury. Rubi explained and he said right lets assess. He did the manipulation tests on her right knee to see the range, then moved over to her left knee. He wasn’t able to perform the test due to lack of mobility. He said and MRI was needed. He went to see if we could get it done that day. Unfortunately, weren’t able to. But she did have it 15th April.  Forgot to take her watch off and wondered why her arm was lifting on its own.

Hopefully we should have the results for the next appointment on 24th and we have everything crossed that it’s not her ACL as that could require surgery.

We have Kez’s wedding to attend in the next week! I have a wedding cake to make and some fudge for the sweet cart! I’m also hairdresser for the day and videographer, with Rubi being the photographer! Its going to be chaotic!

We are only 4 months into this year, and I feel like it’s been a year! Let’s hope the rest of the year is better!
