This year Rubi turns 16, midway through her GCSE’s. I wanted to make her birthday extra special and give her something to look forward to while taking her exams.
So, I looked and looked and researched on the internet and settled on creating her an advent calendar for her birthday. One present a day to open 16 days before her birthday that would increase in value each day. Easy! Or so I thought!
I thought of this idea in March, giving me a little over 2 months to get everything as her birthday is June. But what to get her? I had a general idea but needed help just in case. I asked Ellia for ideas and input and created a list of all the things she liked.
We started off with little things like socks, candles, books – all the little home comforts.
Then we decided on gift cards – food, drinks, books.
Then it was wanted items – purse, jewellery.
Then cash and bank transfers.
Brill! I started getting all the little bits thinking this is great. My birthday is 20 days before Rubi’s. Which meant by my birthday we would only have 3 days until she got her advent calendar. Had I got everything? No! My little brain told me she didn’t need it until June, when her actual birthday was, not 16 days before! Doh! Had a little mad rush to get the remainder of her presents and then wrapped them all up ready to hand to her.
She was shocked and so happy! She has opened a present a day for 16 days ready for her 16th Birthday, where we reveal the biggest surprise of them all. (another blog post for this)

She has been so appreciative of every single gift, she has sent a little snap to her friends like a daily reveal. It was absolutely worth all the rushing around to get it for her 😊
